Riverside County Fair

My Wonderful husband and I went to the Riverside County fair in Indio because my husband favorite band, Switchfoot, was playing. We got in the park for under $20 and we got to see Switchfoot for free! Crazy! Let me just say this, I have been to the LA county fair and this fair was just as awesome.

So next time consider going to the Riverside County fair. I wasn't disappointed at all. Oh wait take that back. This festival is also called the date festival, as in dried plums, and I couldn't find a vendors selling date shakes anywhere. Next year I'll try again.

Alexandra's Quinceañera

My sister in-law's cousin, Alexandera, turned 15. In the Mexican culture that means the coming of age for a woman. In celebration of this landmark most young woman have a Quinceañera. Almost always these parties are a big deal and are very similar to a wedding. Big dress, flowers, attendants, ceremony/mass, reception, dancing and cake. I have never had the chance to experience one before and this is what came of it.

This is the church where the ceremony took place

Here she is all decked out. Look at that amazing dress with the gold stitching! All the Aunts and Grand mothers wore a bronze colored dress. You'll see one later.

It was a full mass(service).

This is the beautiful car that Alexandera came to the church in. Her and her attendants left the ceremony in a party bus.

Lovely table decorations. This reception was way more fancy then my wedding.

This had to be my favorite part of the whole evening. There was an amazing mariachi band. They were such talented singers and musicians. I have also never seen a mariachi band that had a harp.

The traditions goes that first the young woman and her attendants dance the waltz together and then they do a surprise dance. The surprise dance is a dance of the young woman's choice and it is kept a secret to the guest until it is preformed. My sister in-law told me that some girls even do hip hop dances. This surprise dance is practiced for over two months and what Alexandera chose was Ballet Folklorico.

After a good amount of dancing there was a father daughter dance.


And this is Marisela's (my sister in-law) Grandmother. Oh my goodness I love this lady. She only speaks Spanish and I know a little Spanish and from what I can catch she is hilarious. She was on the dance floor all night and of course she is in the bronze dress as an honored guest.

I hope you enjoyed that. I had so much fun and I hope to attend another one.

So there is a really funny story that goes with this session. On Saturday morning I get a text saying 'Heyy' and my phone said it was from my old college roommate Kat. I was so surprised. I asked her how she was doing and how Bella was doing, her daughter, and she just laughed and said fine. I asked her where she was living now and she said still off of Victoria. I was confused so I asked in San Diego Area right? Kat responded by saying San Diego? Just so you know last I had heard Kat moved back to San Diego after College. I started thinking maybe she moved to Riverside and she is trying to surprise me. Naw, so I asked is this Kat? Then I get message saying 'no it's Kaleena.' Then I laughed so hard because it just so happens that Kaleena has a sister named Bella too. Turns out that when I was syncing my Facebook contacts with my phone contacts on my new phone, I synced Kaleena's number with Kat's.

Kaleena is one of the wonderful girls I have had the privilege of getting to know through Sandals Church Frontside. She hasn't been to church in a while and she wanted to catch up. So how did we get to the session? I asked Kaleena if she wanted to hang out, get some lunch and possibly do a photo session for fun. She was totally down.

So on my way home from a Wedding session, pictures coming soon, I was just inlove with how the afternoon light was hitting all the dandelion on my street and I had to stop and take a picture.

I love dandelions. They are like the symbol of my marriage. We made dandelion stamps for our wedding invites, our comforter set has dandelions on it and I bought a dandelion scarf on Tuesday.

This is the Story of Maggie and Nick from what I could gather. My Co-leader, Shae'Von ,for sandals fHS is also a photographer and she asked if I could help out by shooting the first half of a wedding for her. Shae'Von told me that the bride Maggie had some serious health problem and she and her husband to be, Nick, were pushing the date up so Maggie could be covered by Nick's military insurance. Of course I said yes. I was brought on as the details girl, but of course I couldn't help, but catch some photo-journalistic moments too.

It was a rainy day, but we made the most of it!

My sister Heidi and Pavel met at University of Redlands, but at that point they were just friends. Their paths crossed again last year at a church in Costa Mesa and now they are engaged. They work together in youth ministry at their church in Moreno Valley, CA. The date is set for June 2010.

Impromptu cheer pictures

I volunteer at my church's youth group called Frontside. Well on Sunday the youth girls ran the service and the girl leaders stayed for all three services to support them. There's a huge gap between 11:45am service and the 5:15pm service. After lunch the girls decided they wanted to go to Emma and Amanda's house to hang out. Emma needed to take cheer pictures for her football program, so she asked me to do them right then. We ran out to my house, got my stuff and here's what we did.

Amanda wanted to do a little photo shoot before we took pictures of her sister.

It was a fun impromptu shoot and we had just enough time to take the pictures, upload them and send them to her cheer coach.

I do one wedding and it seems like other ones are just coming by to say hello. Wow. I know I should say yes to all of them to get more experience, but the last one stressed me out so bad I'm a little hesitant. Maybe I'll actually let my husband help me with them this time. It shouldn't be as scary because the first time was out of the way and all the rest of them I will come with experience under my belt! We'll see.

Over the week end my friends and I were playing the game Loaded Questions and the question everyone had to answer about me was " where would you want to live for the rest of your life?" I had the worst time trying to answer the question and the rest of my friends knew right of the bat. It was NYC. They were totally right. I love New York City and I would move there in a New York minute if I had the funds and a job.
Not to say that I wouldn't miss all my family and friends.
It's just one of my dreams.

For Christmas my mother gave my husband and I two potted Amaryllis bulbs. They finally bloomed on Valentines Day. Cute huh? They have grown a little crooked because you're supposed to put them next to a well lit window. Our only well lit window is our back sliding glass door and that's stretch. It's funny to watch a plant change shape to reach light.
The next bulb should be catching up soon. I think it will be a different color.

The frontside youth group went to play in the snow on Friday. It was awesome. There was this amazing hill that had rocks and trees at the bottom of it. We had to station some guys down at the bottom to keep kids from running into the rocks and trees.

This is my awesome friend Elyse aka Elle(that's her stage name).

On Saturday night Megan(also in the picture) and I met up with her at Starbucks for a few hours. It was great! I forget how much I cherish her friendship. I mean I'm always glad that she's my friend, but I forget about all the great conversations we have.

She's the free as bird friend that just loves life and does Yoga. I love her!

Crazy thing about her: She creates yoga classes for kids. Her latest class was about poses that took you from nation to nation learning about the animals of those nations. To get across oceans you would use a boat pose. So cute!

She's also going to Thailand to make her own movie or as I would say make my own adventure. At first when she told us that she was going to Thailand and Vietnam alone, Megan and I were like what? Those countries aren't that safe. She then explained that her male cousin lives in Thailand and she's going to travel with him and his girlfriend. Now her movie sounded fun. I can't wait to her all her stories when she gets back.

I had a really sad day last Thursday. I took the day off because I needed to clear my head and get some help. After talking to my buddy Breezy I felt a lot better. I also decided to talk to my mom. Mom's always know what's best. She prayed with me and gave me some goals. I told her that I needed a hobby and she reminded me that I have her sewing machine. We decided to go to Jo-Ann's and get a pattern and get me started on my hobby.
As you can see above I'm going to be making this simple skirt first and maybe the dress next to it, but it looks really complicated. I'm really excited for the color I chose for the skirt. It makes me happy!
I will start this Saturday and see what happens.
Oh and I bought Project Runway Scissors. Oh I love that show!

The Fox Theater

The Fox theater opened in Riverside in 1929 as a movie theater. It was often used by studios to preview new movies. The Fox Theater was the first theater to show Gone with the Wind and Miss Scarlet even made an appearance.

The theater wasn't making enough money to stay open, so they closed it in 1992.

On January 15th 2010 it was re-opened as a performance theater. It was renovated head to toe! My husband and I went for a tour on Sunday. I brought my camera along to document this big part of Riverside history.

There was a little car show out front of cars that would have been around when the Fox Theater first opened!

Sheryl Crow will be the opening act on January 22nd and 23rd .
My husband and I plan on seeing Natalie Cole there on February 13.

I was in good old Trader Joe's on Sunday and I saw this stem of Brussels sprouts. all I could think about was that most people claim that Brussels sprouts are gross, but lately I've heard that they can be quite tasty in garlic lemon butterness. I decided to give them a try. I cut the stem into three parts, so there will be three days of Brussels experiments.

The first experiment was to steam them and then pour the butter garlicness on top when they were done. I had know idea when done was.

Final product: It was a little over done. The Brussels sprouts were mushy.
So we shall see what we come up with next time. Oh and the taste wasn't too bad.

My best friend Megan wears headbands all the time, so I got the idea to turn an Oatmeal box into a headband holder. I got a little artsy and painted swirls all over it.

After it was dry I tried to put my headbands on it to see how well it worked. My headbands slid right down. I was so sad that it wasn't going to work as well as I thought, but it was too late to make adjustments. I gave it to her and she loved it . She put her headbands on it and they fit perfectly. I forgot that I have a bigger head and I stretch my headbands out. haha

Ice Skating!

Our awesome friend Beth decided that we should all go ice skating together before we exchange gifts! So here we are having a grand old time.
The first picture is me and my ridiculous skating outfit. I went to American Apparel to get just the right leggings and the sweater is an ugly sweater my brother gave to me so I could have an ugly sweater party.
Second picture is Beth showing us her best fall. We held a little competition and she was a close second.
Third is all my awesome friends. We're great.

So I was searching videos for the classic Muppet head shake, I was inspired by the Chris Kattan shake, and I found one of my favorite Weezer videos. Watch Kermit when he freaks out. That's the classic Muppet shake that I love to do.

Another good reason to love Weezer.

And another reason to love Weezer: I think they love vintage too! Is it normal to love a band so much and feel like you connect on the all the right levels? Ya I didn't think so. haha

Last video. In this one they invited their fans out to break a bunch of world records. One was the most people playing air guitar at the same time.

Simply Radical Service Weekend

I'm a youth leader at my church and last weekend we held a service-project-lock-in. It was put together to show the youth God's heart for people of other nations and people who haven't heard of Jesus yet.

The first night we dwelt on the Glory of God and how our lives are to be all about showing the Glory of God. We also spent time reading about different people groups in the world that haven't heard about God or Jesus and praying for them.

The next day we went to MFI a woman's recovery home and helped fix lights, door knobs, and weather striping. The first picture is from one of our girls painting their fences. Some of the kids were baby siting their children while their mothers were cleaning the home.

It was a great weekend!

So Every Tuesday we have "gender night." The guys hang out at Megan & Thomas' house and play video games while the ladies go to either Bethany's house, Tiffany's house or a mini adventure to hang out and chat.

Two weeks ago:
Our lovely host Bethany let us make a mess of her kitchen for a Tuesday night to make cookies! It's Christmas, so that means you bake lots and lots of cookies. Our group of ladies decided to make cookie dough one night and then the next Tuesday we will bake them and let all our guy friends eat them. It will be great to combine the two nights. So that mixing of groups is happening this Tuesday and I'm so super excited!

So last year my hubby had the great idea of having all of our friends together for a day after thanksgiving meal with our friends. We started off with bringing all our left overs, but this year everyone made nice and new food. It was great! I'm so glad that Megan and Thomas were nice enough to put it together this year and host it! It will be a tradition for years to come.

It can't be so

So I've been trying to find a local place to develop my 120 film in-house and I finally found one. Intellicolor photo lab on Lime. I called them today to get the DL and he was happy that I found them and told me to come on down and forget all about Ritz, which takes two weeks to get my film back to me. Intellicolor could do it in a day! So exciting.

I decided to get more information on them , so I went to the their website. This picture is from their website. The guy on the phone didn't say anything about them closing in 15 days. I guess my happiness was short lived, but it was nice for the 10mins. I sent an e-mail asking if was really true. I'll keep you updated.

Women of Distinction

So every year my boss does an event called women of distinction where he honors 63 women in the 63rd district. So this year we wanted to run with the color theme of gold and black.

These are a few things I'm going to use in the design of it. Yes I'm designing again for these crazies, but only for our office, so there won't be so many hands in the pot.

So the mask feathers are what I'm going to use mostly. I hope I can pull it off. I'll probably have to steal a Wacom Tablet. I hope it turns out!

This is a video from the National Dog Show that aired on Thanksgiving.

Whenever I see a dog it makes me happy. They are just so full of joy. They just want to love you and be loved in return. It's so easy for them to trust you and to guard you.

It just makes me want to be happy more often like a dog. I should just be thankful for the simple things in life. I want to be full of joy like a dog.

With God in control it shouldn't be that hard.

So I am so excited for this Friday because I'm going to go to Ventura and visit Breezy! She is a friend I made while I was in photography school in Ventura. We worked together at the coffee bean and then we found out we went to the same school and loved Jesus. Now we are close friends. I actually think of her as a mentor. Breezy is so convicting in a good way. She is crazy fun and a self proclaimed "dirty hippie." She opened my eyes to the beautiful South Lake Tahoe. That's where she is originally from. Isn't he the cutest. I was going through my old film while I was cleaning my photography closet and found these. This is from when we went to Redding this summer with Megan and Thomas. We got out of the car and it smelled like cows and there were flies everywhere!

So I fianlly got some of my pictures to come out from my 120 diana+. I switched to ISO100 so more of my pictures should work out. I love playing with film. The lighting, the softness and depth of feild is so much better!

Nick and I are obsessed with Madmen so we themed our Christmas card after the intro of the show. It was acombined effort of Thomas, Nick and I. Oh and Megan was their doing the photo shoot keeping us entertained and she was helping us pose!
So what's the Love Christmas?
Ever since the first year Nick and I were dating we have thrown a Christmas party. We usually do it at Nick's parent's house, but this year we have our own house, that we rent/share with the O'fs. It's always a semi formal event. I love dinner parties that you get to dress up for! It's a tradition to play white elephant and we always do a pot luck. It's going to be grand. I think I'm going to post all my past Christmas outfits.

So here it is. This is the final-ish version of the flyer I had to make for work. I think I did pretty good. The other office that was being so critical thought it was good and that I needed to change the tit;e to a different color to make it pop. That's OK I guess. :)

Gina's Wedding

So my husband and I went to a wedding last weekend and the favors were these super fancy candied apples! And yes that is glitter and there were delicious!

I was telling my friend Gina, who got married, that I've never been to a fancy wedding before and she said it wasn't fancy. The waiters came around and put our napkins on our laps, there were three courses, valet parking for free and it was at a golf club in Indian Wells. You tell me. It was a blast. Nick and I were on the dance floor all night. I work with Gina, so all four of my co-workers were there and one of them was drinking a little too much whiskey. He was on the dance floor with these crazy moves and at one point he took his shirt off. Haha so crazy and I hear someone has pictures of that marvelous moment.

Pumpkin carving !

One of my good friend Bethany put on a little pumpkin carving party for a group of friends. The spread was amazing and the carving designs were fantastic. I was still sick and on a lot of drugs so I left my friend Eric carve my pumpkin for me.

This is the hilarious Bethany. She uses an actual knife to carve her pumpkins and she loves every second of it!

Jessica isn't too happy about removing the guts of the pumpkin.

So I was looking at a wedding registry at crateandbarrel.com and they had a link to their children's website landofnod.com and I found these:
Aren't they to die for? They are for kids play rooms, but I want them for my personal luggage. I still don't have pro luggage and they are so perfect. They might be a little small, but they are cheap. $39 for the biggest one! I'm fighting the urge.

I have been doing a little research for my halloween costume...

Today I practiced my mod eye make-up. It was kinda crazy looking, since I nver wear eye liner or much make up at all. I want to get this thing down to a T. There's a contest at the Halloween party I am going to and I want to win because the hostess said the gift was "pretty awesome." Ijust have to get my drees and my husbands dress pants tailored and we will be set. I even have a long cigarette holder. yippee!

Blue stew

So today my husband said he would be home for dinner before his class. I had the great idea of making a stew with black beans, chicken, potatoes and onions. It sounds like it would all work out, but I put everything in this thing.

The beans weren't done cooking and they made everything blue.

My husband was a champ and ate all of it.

So this was supposed to be texted to my blog yesterday, but instead it put computer jargon.

The Holy Spirit led me outside to read Forgotten God in nature, so I took a walk to Riverside's beautiful Victoria Avenue. With all the local plants around me I read in peace. I couldn't help, but be distracted by God's beauty. It made me cry. I got back to my reading and was again reminded that God can do crazy thing through his spirit in us. We just need to ask in faith and boldly. Then I noticed a drop of water on my page: it started to sprinkle. It was amazing. I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Our God knows what we need we just have to let him guide us there.
